This is a continuation of the book suggestion series. This list includes my recommendations for parents of children who are gifted or twice-exceptional.
Both of these diagnoses are quite difficult to define since they present differently from child to child. For this reason, there is no one official definition. The National Association for Gifted Children shares the many definitions of giftedness from different sources on their page.
When a child is both gifted and has learning differences, emotional or mental disorders he is considered to fall under the Twice-Exceptional (2E) category.
Whether your child has been diagnosed with giftedness and/or 2E, or whether you suspect he might fall under one or both of these categories, here are four exceptional books for you to devour.
4 Book Recommendations for Parents of Children Who Are Gifted or Twice-Exceptional:
- Bright, Not Broken Gifted Kids, ADHD, and Autism: Why Twice-Exceptional Children Are Stuck and How to Help Them by Diane M. Kennedy and Rebecca S. Banks
- Parenting Gifted Kids: Tips for Raising Happy and Successful Children by James R. Delisle, Ph.D.
- Different Minds: Children with AD/HD, Asperger Syndrome, and Other Learning Deficits by Deirdre V. Lovecky
- Misdiagnosis and Dual Diagnoses of Gifted Children and Adults: ADHD, Biploar, OCD, Asperger’s, Depression, and Other Disorders by F. Richard Olenchak, Jean Goerss, paul Beljan, James T. Webb, Nadia E. Webb, Edward R. Amend
